The participants of the webinar were encouraged to leave their questions in the dedicated form beforehand and right during the webinar. In this section, we are providing a follow-up Q&A with more questions answered — check it out below:

Wialon EV functionality

1. How can I monitor the charging status of electric vehicles in Wialon?

You can monitor the charging status by setting up a battery level sensor that reads charging data from the electric vehicles. If your device sends battery information, Wialon can display it in the Monitoring tab, Reports, and even trigger notifications if needed. Moreover, the battery level data can be used to: include information on battery charging status, charge number and volume in reports; filter data in report tables based on charging intervals; and create notifications for fuel fillings and battery charges, triggered when the unit's battery is recharged.

To monitor the charging status of EVs in Wialon, you need to configure the sensor by selecting the values for required parameters and enabling the Calculate data by the sensor option. Additionally, you should set up data collection to align with your specific requirements, such as receiving notifications and gathering data for reports.

2. Can I get amperage and remaining battery voltages for electric cars displayed in Wialon?

At the moment, Wialon supports key parameters like current battery charge level, consumption and battery charges. If you need to monitor additional details such as amperage or remaining battery voltages, you can do so by setting up custom sensors or other suitable options. We're also actively gathering feedback and suggestions to guide future enhancements for EV functionality, including the potential for features like battery health monitoring.

1. How do I start using the automatic creation of popular sensors feature?

There are two ways: when creating a new unit or when editing its properties.

When you create a new unit and select the device type, the sensors tab in Wialon will automatically display sensor suggestions for that device.

Recently we have also added the ability to create sensors based on suggested recommendations in the unit properties window. The system analyzes messages received from the unit and suggests the automatic creation of suitable sensors that are not yet configured.

2. Does the automatic sensor creation work for any device brand used? Will the automatic sensors detect if there is a CAN bus sensor to get the info from?

It depends on the device. Automatic sensor recommendations are shown for devices with ignition, mileage, and voltage sensors. Recommendations might not appear if no previous cases of creating these sensors in Wialon were found for the device, which generally happens if the device you are using is not popular. More sensor recommendations are planned for future releases.

Video in Wialon

1. Is the video functionality compatible only with the H.264 codec, or does it also support H.265?

Currently, Wialon is only compatible with the H.264 codec for video, but we are working to implement the H.265 codec as well.

2. How can I download videos to my computer and change the video quality?

  • Downloading videos: Use the Download file icon in the Files tab in the Video section. If there are files from several cameras, select the necessary cameras and click Download. The downloaded files are saved separately.
  • Changing video quality: If available for the device, click on the (SD/HD) icon in the Live streaming or Playback tabs to change the video quality.

3. Does viewing video in reports or messages consume data?

No, data consumption for video in reports or messages only applies when viewing through the Video tab or using the Video icon on the Monitoring tab.

4. For which MDVR models is camera audio already available?

The option to enable or disable sound in Wialon’s video tab will only appear if the vehicle supports this feature. We recommend checking with the device manufacturer to see if your hardware includes this functionality.

Other questions about Wialon features

1. How do I turn on the new tooltip?

The redesigned unit tooltip is automatically available, so there's no need to turn it on. We recently introduced the new tooltip on the Monitoring tab, which was the final section to receive this update. Now, the refreshed design is seamlessly integrated throughout Wialon.

2. How can I recover deleted geofences or groups of geofences?

Currently, only geofences can be recovered through the Restore content option in the CMS Manager. If you need to recover groups of geofences, please contact our Technical Care team at support@wialon.com for assistance.

3. How do I configure the sensor for detecting fuel drains in motion?

You can activate the Detect fuel drains in motion option in your sensor settings. This setting allows detecting drains not only during stops but also during movement. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us at support@wialon.com

4. How do we mark a fuel filling or drain as false?

There is functionality allowing you to mark false fillings and drains in reports and charts. Detailed instructions are available in the documentation.

5. Is there a feature for drivers for creating a route from a trip selection and sending it to a mobile app for driver navigation?

You can use Wialon's routing tool to create a route and then share it as a URL with the drivers. The drivers can access the route via their mobile phones using the link.

6. Is it possible to have stop points on the map during a trip?

Yes, you can use the Tracks tab to see the trips made by the vehicle and also markers such as stops, parkings, fuel fillings, etc. This information can also be included in reports if the map is configured accordingly.

Future plans

What can we expect from Wialon in the near future?

We’ve shared the Wialon development roadmap on our blog, outlining the key areas of development for the rest of the year. Some features, like battery level control for electric vehicles and the automatic creation of popular sensors, have already been implemented, while we’re actively working on the rest. Stay tuned for more updates!
