In the days of lockdowns and restrictions, any offline event is like a holiday, especially if it's the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) – a long-awaited major technology exhibition that has returned to Las Vegas in 2022 after taking place in the all-digital format in 2021.

What is CES for technology, and why are offline exhibitions like this so important to Wialon and the whole partner community? What is our next destination? You will find the answers below. Also, don’t miss a bonus: insights into the peculiarities of the North and South American markets.

About CES

CES was first held in the USA in 1967. Since then, the exhibition has become one of the most popular events in the hi-tech world. In 2022, the show welcomed over 45,000 visitors from 120 countries. The attendees could get acquainted with top-notch technologies related to digital health, automotive tech, food tech, NFTs, smart home, gaming, and more. Gurtam represented the IoT field. We exhibited two of our products: Wialon and flespi.

Promoting technologies to the public is not the only reason why companies like ours visit such events. We also seek live communication with the members of the international partner community.

Meetings with partners

We are always looking forward to an offline event as an opportunity to meet with partners in person, synchronize our efforts, and discuss cooperation development.

The Wialon team had meetings with the members of our partner community from North and South America. We discussed the latest telematics trends, plans for 2022, current pain points, and what Wialon can do to help our partners conquer new heights. And since video telematics is a significant trend these days, we also spoke a lot about the new Wialon video module

We are very grateful to the partners who found time to visit our partner evening and join us at the exhibition.

About the market in North and South America

The Wialon experts have shared their insights into the peculiarities of the local telematics market. Find out what opportunities our partners in the region can leverage:

  • Video telematics
Video telematics is a massive trend in the US. Berg Insight admitted that the number of vehicles with video telematics systems in North America reached 2,1 million units in 2020. The active installed base will amount to more than 4,4 million units in the region by 2025.

  • Driver behavior monitoring
As far as the US is going through a car crash epidemic, American customers often request analytics on driver behavior to help improve fleet safety.

  • Electric vehicles
There were tons of electric vehicles (EVs) at CES this year. And it’s no surprise as the USA is the world’s #1 in terms of ecological car users. In the next five years, the global EV telematics market is expected to grow, reaching a total market size of US $5,132 billion compared to US $2,511 billion in 2019.

  • Smart cities and IoT
In the next 20 years, the majority of the population will be concentrated in metropolitan areas. On the other hand, infrastructure in many big cities is not ready for this. How can humanity tackle the issue? Andrew Nelson, Partner Manager (North America), Wialon, shares his thoughts:

“I was surprised by the push for smart cities at the exhibition. The industry analysts didn’t fully convince me at first. They predicted that the majority of the population in the next 20 years would live in the metropolitan areas, in big cities. These cities are old and cannot support such an influx of people. They will need to be modernized. IoT is a way of doing this. Soon, we will add sensors to just about anything possible to put on the internet.”

  • Diversity of customer requirements in South America
The variety of customer requirements drives the demand for GPS tracking services in South America. Most of the clients in the region look for cost-effective, ready-made, and easy-to-use solutions.
