Unit #3,700,000 connected to Wialon! Meet GPS.AZ from Azerbaijan

Time flies: this is the third milestone we achieved this year, and the unit number keeps growing! The two big events were the 3,500,000th and 3,600,000th units that were connected in Ivory Coast and Brazil. This time, an Azerbaijani company rounded the number on the Wialon counter.

The broad geography of these occurrences shows a large and thriving partner community behind them that helps businesses from all around the globe scale and grow.

A telematics company set to produce real benefits for businesses

GPS.AZ is one of the largest telematics solution providers in Azerbaijan. A lot of companies, including the public sector and the country's largest holdings, have been cooperating with GPS.AZ for many years and have achieved tremendous results.

We had the pleasure to speak with Jamal Garabaev, GPS.AZ General manager, and learn more about the company.

What are your feelings about being the partner who connected the anniversary unit?

This is very important news for us and also a great marker of the sustainable development of our company. Together with the continuous growth, we are focused on improving the promotion and implementation of new products and solutions. Developing our business in partnership with Wialon gives us the resources for quick adaptation to technological trends and remaining an innovative leader in our region.

Tell us more about your company. 

We have been using Wialon for more than 10 years now, and over this time, have transformed from being just a provider of telematics systems to a consulting company that audits the work of transportation and logistics departments.

A year ago, we decided to enter the international arena and open an office in Uzbekistan. Our further plans include entering the Turkish market. The potential of this market is huge despite the presence of big players. There are about 24 million vehicles and the potential clients mainly need basic tracking.

Do you remember when and where you first heard about Wialon? What finally convinced you to work with us?

Personally, I’ve known Wialon for at least 15 years, having started working with it at a telematics company as an engineer. As I studied all the potential of this product, I noticed that the company used only 10% of it. With the founding of GPS.AZ, I focused on maximizing the impact for the client by leveraging all the capabilities of this platform. This was the most important aspect in becoming a market leader.

What was your first project with Wialon?

We delivered our first project for the construction holding Akkord that owned 1,500 trucks and heavy machinery. Previously, the company cooperated with all the telematics service providers on the market but failed to achieve the desired result. Basic tracking by means of human resources couldn’t provide effective control of such a large fleet. All the operational processes needed complex automation.

We analyzed the project requirement and developed an ERP system and integrated it with Wialon through SDK. By automating most of the complex processes, we have almost completely eliminated the human factor. With Wialon, we achieved significant cost savings for the client and fully paid off the solution implementation in the first month of its use.

What project helped you connect the 3,700,000th unit to Wialon?

The client was the large construction company engaged in work on infrastructure. We invested a large amount of resources in this project, and now our support staff works on the client’s every job site.

Do telematics and IoT develop and grow in Azerbaijan?

We strongly believe that the future belongs to these spheres. We don’t have any large projects in the IoT domain at the moment, but have already connected 500 laser epilation devices, 50 welding machines, 35 Playstation game consoles, a huge number of generators, heat boilers, and refrigerator warehouses.
